Child Benefit Fraud Uncovered in Lviv Region

According to TSN.ua: A woman in the Lviv region has been convicted for defrauding the state child benefit system. At the beginning of 2024, she entered into a criminal conspiracy and fabricated false medical certificates regarding her children's illnesses to illegitimately claim government funds. This type of fraud undermines social programs designed to support vulnerable families.

From January 2024 through April 2025, the woman fraudulently obtained a total of 273,154 hryvnias in state payments. Her scheme, however, was ultimately detected by authorities. The Drohobych City District Court found her guilty of both fraud and document forgery.

Court Verdict and Penalties

The court sentenced her to three years in prison, with a one-year probationary period. Additionally, she was ordered to repay the state 136,577 hryvnias, representing a portion of the illegally acquired funds. This case highlights ongoing efforts to combat fraud within Ukraine's social welfare system.

This case underscores the critical need for stringent oversight of state benefit programs and reinforced measures to prevent fraudulent activities.

Given the substantial sums involved, law enforcement agencies continue to identify and prosecute individuals who attempt to abuse the social protection system. It is vital that such legal actions serve as a deterrent to potential offenders and help maintain public trust in social institutions.
