Switzerland has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians
According to inkorr.com: On October 8, the Federal Council of Switzerland announced the extension of the temporary protection status S for Ukrainians until March 4, 2027. The new initiative provides for a differentiated approach to Ukrainian refugees depending on the region of their origin. This information was reported by 'Glavkom' referring to Blue News.
From November 1, individuals who arrived from the following regions will be considered for possible return:
- Volyn;
- Rivne;
- Lviv;
- Ternopil;
- Transcarpathian;
- Ivano-Frankivsk;
- Chernivtsi.
Special conditions and criteria for return will apply to refugees from other regions.
Ukrainians who lose their S status under the new rules will be able to apply for asylum in Switzerland. Those who retain their status will have the opportunity to receive state support.
Previously, President of Poland Karol Nałęcz signed a law extending the stay of Ukrainian refugees in the country until March 4, 2026, but strengthened the conditions for providing financial support.
Moreover, the European Union adopted a recommendation for the gradual completion of temporary protection for Ukrainians, which provides for coordination of actions among member states to ensure the safe return of Ukrainians home and their sustainable reintegration when the security situation allows.
Following changes in Switzerland's policy regarding temporary protection for Ukrainians, requirements for refugees from Ukraine have become stricter in the European space. Now, the region of origin and various return criteria depending on the area of their arrival are taken into account.
