SBU uncovered a scheme for draft dodgers in Kyiv: organizers arrested.
The Security Service and the National Police revealed a new scheme for draft dodgers in Kyiv. A local lawyer, in cooperation with doctors, sold fake certificates to those who did not wish to serve in the Armed Forces.
Details of the scheme
The police reported that they detained the lawyer who was producing fake medical conclusions for draft dodgers. These documents indicated fictitious diseases to provide grounds for deferral from conscription. The scheme also involved another lawyer and three doctors from Kyiv hospitals. They acted in collusion, had a clear action plan, and provided draft dodgers with the opportunity to avoid the army by means of fake employment in state bodies of the capital.
'Law enforcement detained the organizer of this scheme while trying to receive a bribe', it is reported in the statement.
Results of the searches and consequences
During searches in the premises and residences of the participants of the scheme, law enforcement discovered over 7 million hryvnias, 250 thousand dollars, and 16 thousand euros. The detained individuals have been charged with numerous accusations under the Criminal Code. All criminals are currently in custody. An investigation is underway to hold all guilty parties accountable. They could face up to eight years in prison with asset confiscation for these crimes.
Recently, an attempt was also uncovered to smuggle a conscript out of a military unit and previous cases of draft evasion, indicating an intensified fight against desertion and evasion of military duty.
