Situation in Odessa

According to inkorr.com: The number of victims of the natural disaster in Odessa has risen to 10, including a child. This was reported by the Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba, referring to data from the publication 'Glavkom'.

Today, October 2, a day of mourning has been declared in the city. Local authorities have already begun measures to support the victims and provide compensation to the families of the deceased.

'We need to find out why the warning system in the city did not work properly. People did not receive clear information about the risks, schools did not switch to remote mode, there were not enough restrictions on movement in the city. All of this is a matter of safety and people's lives,' he wrote.

Special attention will be paid to flooded shelters that are critical in wartime conditions. Kuleba emphasized that this issue will be resolved as quickly as possible.

Recall that on September 30, Odessa was hit by record precipitation caused by a slow-local cyclone over the Black Sea. During the day, 94 mm of precipitation fell in the city, which is 224% of the monthly norm. Meteorologists noted that an anticyclone blocked the cyclone's movement, leading to atmospheric instability and local downpours, and due to the threat of flooding, the warning level was raised to red.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky instructed Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba to conduct a thorough review of operations in Odessa and clarify all the circumstances that led to the tragedy and its consequences. Zelensky expects a detailed report by this Friday and expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased.

The tragedy in Odessa serves as a reminder of the importance of effective warning systems in the event of natural disasters. The flooding that caused significant human losses shows how critical preparedness for such situations is in wartime conditions. Authorities promise to take measures to prevent a recurrence in the future.
