Trump announced a talk with Putin: 'We will solve this problem, or it will be very interesting'.
Trump is confident about meeting with Putin to discuss the situation in Ukraine
U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on the Air Force One flight that he might call Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ending the war against Ukraine.
'We need to meet. We will meet with him. I think we will solve this problem, or maybe not, but at least we will know. And if we don't solve it, then it will be very interesting,' Trump emphasized.
The American leader expressed confidence that the world will be even safer in the future. 'But I will tell you that the world is already significantly safer. And I think in two or three weeks it will be even safer,' Trump noted, confirming his belief in the possibility of reaching agreements with Putin regarding the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.
Rubio supported Trump's position
Secretary of State Marco Rubio came out in support of the U.S. President's position, expressing doubts about the possible outcomes of Ukrainian-Russian negotiations in Istanbul, scheduled for Friday.
Earlier, Trump pointed out the key condition for achieving progress in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
The negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul spurred discussions on a ceasefire and a possible meeting of the leaders of the two countries.
