Trump presses Ukraine for a deal with Putin: expert assessment.
According to ТСН: US President Donald Trump may continue to pressure Ukraine in an attempt to negotiate terms with dictator Putin and force Kyiv to accept capitulatory agreements.
Expert opinion
This position was expressed during a broadcast on the Espresso television channel by Professor Igor Eisenberg from Manhattan University. He noted:
“I believe that Donald Trump will seek to negotiate with Putin, so at the first opportunity he will continue to pressure Ukraine. He will also expect certain things from Putin that will allow him to pressure the Ukrainian leadership. He will do everything to ensure that Ukraine agrees to actual capitulation. This is how I see the development of events.”
Position of European leaders
At the same time, Eisenberg emphasized that modern European leaders, with the exception of Hungary and Slovakia, understand the historical parallels and risks associated with possible concessions to Russia. He added:
“After all, any victory for Putin in Ukraine would pose a serious threat to their countries and to Europe as a whole.”
Need for coordination
Eisenberg also stressed the importance of close coordination between Ukraine and European partners to counter the pressure from Washington:
“I think that Europe will not agree to any capitulatory agreement for Ukraine. That’s why Ukraine now needs to coordinate its position very closely with the Europeans to ensure that Trump cannot pressure Kyiv too harshly and that he retreats, as he did in March and August of this year.”
It was previously reported that Trump’s peace initiatives faced serious demands from the Kremlin and the steadfast position of Ukraine. European allies also warn about the dangerous strategy of the US in this context. At the same time, it was noted that Russia has never intended to implement the 28-point plan it presented to the US as a possible basis for negotiations.
In the context of escalating international tensions, it is important for Ukraine to maintain coordination with European allies and prepare for possible challenges from the US. The situation remains complex, and support from Europe could be decisive in the confrontation with the Kremlin.
