«Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevo, who has just been elected Pope. It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope. What excitement and a great honor for our country», - stated Trump.
The head of the United States emphasized that he is «eagerly awaiting» the meeting with Pope Leo XIV. «This will be a very significant moment», - he added.
It is worth reminding that on May 8, Robert Prevo from the United States was proclaimed the new Pope. He took the name Leo XIV. This is the first American pontiff in history.
On the first day of the conclave, black smoke was observed coming from the chimney, indicating that the cardinals were unable to reach an agreement. Before the conclave began, the cardinals took solemn oaths to maintain strict secrecy - its violation is punishable by excommunication from the church.
