Trump aims to rename the highest mountain in North America. What is its significance.
The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that he plans to return the highest mountain in North America to its previous name, McKinley. Currently, the mountain is called Denali, in honor of the local residents, which was the decision of the previous president, Barack Obama. Trump also emphasized that William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States, was a Republican. Earlier, in August 2015, Trump promised to overturn Obama's decision regarding the mountain's renaming, calling it 'an insult to Ohio', where McKinley was born and raised. He also stated his intention to reverse the renaming of southern military bases, which was carried out by Democrats and named after Confederates.
In 2015, the U.S. Department of the Interior made the decision to change the name of the mountain to Denali, explaining that McKinley never had any connection to the mountain or Alaska.
Furthermore, Trump’s accusations against Panama regarding excessive tariffs for using the canal are unfounded. Each vessel pays for the use of the canal depending on its tonnage and type, not on the country to which it belongs. Journalists also noted that it is possible Trump is poorly acquainted with the operational rules of the Panama Canal and is concerned about China’s growing influence in Latin America.
The third review on the page of the New York Post is dedicated to Trump's plan to purchase Greenland. If the plan is implemented, it will become the largest territorial acquisition by the United States in history, exceeding even the purchase of Louisiana in 1803. The area of Greenland is larger than that of Louisiana and annexed Texas, and the purchase will be larger than Alaska.
