Nearly 300 Protesters Arrested in France: What Is Happening on the Streets.
According to inkorr.com: The French Ministry of the Interior reported 295 arrests in the first hours of protests against the political class and planned budget cuts. On Wednesday in Paris and other cities around the country, protesters blocked roads and set fires. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau noted that a bus was set on fire in the western city of Rennes. In the southwest, a fire damaged electrical cables, leading to the suspension of train traffic on one line and disruptions on another, as reported by government transportation authorities.
“Currently, the protests appear to be less intense than previous waves of unrest that periodically shook Macron during both his first and second presidential terms,” the publication writes.
New Prime Minister
It should be noted that on September 9, French President Emmanuel Macron appointed Sébastien Lecornu, the former Minister of Defense, as the new Prime Minister. This is already the fifth prime minister in the last two years, and the appointment occurred against the backdrop of escalating political crisis and failed attempts by the previous government to approve the budget.
Protests in France have led to a large number of arrests amid dissatisfaction with the political course and plans for budget reforms. The new Prime Minister will face challenges in trying to reconcile conflicting interests and manage political tension in the country.
