According to TSN.ua: A criminal case has been opened by police in the Lviv region following the assault of a 46-year-old veteran and combat participant who had been held captive by Russian forces. The attack occurred on March 17, 2023, at approximately 10:30 PM on Aviatsiina Street in the city of Horodok. The victim filed a complaint with law enforcement the next day, on March 18, 2023. This case has drawn attention to the challenges faced by returning service members in Ukraine.

The criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 1 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigators have identified a 39-year-old active-duty soldier as the suspect in the case. Under the relevant legal provisions, the penalties for this offense include:

  • corrective labor for up to two years;
  • restriction or deprivation of liberty for up to three years.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents and veteran communities, highlighting ongoing issues of safety and violence that combatants encounter when transitioning back to civilian life.
