A two-month-old baby saved in Lviv: successful brain surgery.
Brain surgery of a two-month-old child in Lviv
According to ТСН: In Lviv, doctors successfully removed a tumor from the right lateral ventricle of the brain of a two-month-old girl named Olivija, who hails from Rivne. The operation proved to be quite complex, as the baby required neurosurgical intervention.
The team of neurosurgeons managed to completely remove the tumor while preserving the life and health of the child. It is important to note that the surgery on such a small patient was a significant challenge, as Olivija weighed only about 6 kg.
“The formation was located in the choroid plexus area with a high blood supply, thus posing a high risk of significant blood loss. Moreover, the tumor was close to the area responsible for movements. Therefore, the operation required maximum precision and careful preparation,” said Mykhailo Lohva, the head of the Pediatric Neurosurgery Clinic.
Before the operation, doctors prepared a blood reserve, special hemostatic materials, and conducted consultations with specialists who could be needed in case of massive bleeding.
“This was not a typical, to put it mildly, tumor removal surgery,” noted Mykhailo Lohva.
The procedure lasted longer than usual, as the doctors checked the level of blood loss each time and very carefully removed the formation to avoid damaging the movement areas of the brain. Such operations are only possible under conditions of intraoperative monitoring and cohesive work of a highly qualified team of specialists.
Olivija's mother noted that her daughter is already actively eating, sucking her little fists, babbling, and laughing a lot.
“All the skills that were present before the operation have returned, and new ones have appeared in accordance with her age. We are infinitely happy and grateful to the doctors for saving our daughter's life,” shares the emotions of the young mother.
This story is a testament to the high professionalism of doctors and the latest technologies used in medicine. The operation was not only a major achievement for the team of neurosurgeons but also an important stage in Olivija's treatment. Currently, the girl continues her recovery, and the doctors are monitoring her condition, waiting for further improvement.
