According to ТСН: In Mykolaiv, a couple was detained for selling their newborn baby for 10 thousand dollars. The infant was handed over to the buyer near the maternity hospital, and the money was intended for their own needs.

This information was disclosed by the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region.

Crime Details

Migration police operatives learned about the preparation of the crime even before the child was born. It turned out that the 21-year-old mother and her 38-year-old cohabitant, the child's father, began searching for a potential buyer already in the late stages of pregnancy.

“The buyer” discussed the terms of the deal with the couple. For the newborn baby, the couple demanded 10 thousand dollars, while they received a preliminary payment of 8 thousand hryvnias. The woman also wrote a receipt stating that she would hand over the baby after giving birth.

On January 2, a day after the birth, the deal was executed. Police detained the couple immediately after handing over the baby near the maternity hospital.

Arrest and Consequences

The operation to uncover and arrest was conducted by units of the migration police, investigative department, criminal analysis analysts, and special police unit of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region.

The detainees were charged under part 3 of article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (human trafficking concerning minors). The court chose a preventive measure in the form of imprisonment with the possibility of posting bail.

Even before this situation, the couple had come to the attention of law enforcement due to illegal drug trafficking, theft, and other offenses.

This case highlights the serious problem of human trafficking, particularly the sale of children. Law enforcement agencies urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious situations to avoid tragedies related to the abuse of infants.
