A working group on elections is being created in the Parliament: what will be discussed.
According to ТСН: The Ukrainian Parliament plans to create a working group that will deal with election issues. The group will be headed by the first deputy speaker of parliament and newly elected chairman of the Servant of the People party, Oleksandr Korniienko.
He discussed this in a comment for Suspilne. According to him, the initiator of establishing this group was the leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction, David Arakhamia.
Transparency of discussions
Korniienko assured that all discussions within the group "will be conducted absolutely openly."
“We will share with the media all the results of these discussions,” he said.
Issues for discussion
The future head of the group noted that it will consider a wide range of issues, including those raised by President Zelensky, such as the possibility and conditions for holding elections during martial law, which American partners also mention.
“We will definitely explore what other legislative conditions, besides security, mentioned by the president, need to be taken into account,” Korniienko noted.
Korniienko also outlined the issues that will be addressed in the group:
- how military personnel will vote;
- how Ukrainians abroad will vote;
- how internally displaced persons will be accounted for;
- the electoral infrastructure, which has been partially destroyed.
He added that the creation of this group has not yet taken place, and its activities will focus on "post-war elections." The group is planned to include representatives of the Central Election Commission, all factions and groups of the Verkhovna Rada, the relevant committee, ministries, and public organizations.
It is planned that the deputies of the head of the working group will be the opposition representative (the Fatherland party) Deputy Speaker of the Rada Olena Kondratiuk and the head of the parliamentary committee on state governance, local self-government, regional development, and urban planning Olena Shuliak, who recently led the Servant of the People party.
It is worth noting that US President Donald Trump recently stated that the issue of elections is one of the most discussed among Ukrainians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the readiness to hold elections during the war, emphasizing the importance of addressing security issues, voting for the military, and the legislative framework for the legitimacy of elections.
These initiatives indicate the growing willingness of the Ukrainian parliament to engage in open dialogue on election issues in the context of martial law. The working group aims to find solutions that will take all aspects into account to ensure the legitimacy and security of the electoral process.
