Ukraine’s National Security Council Denies Hack of Military Databases, Calls It a Russian Disinformation Campaign.
False Claims Refuted
According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, operating under the National Security and Defense Council (RNBO), has officially rejected recent allegations that hackers breached databases belonging to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, territorial recruitment and social support centers, and medical facilities. According to the agency, these claims are part of a coordinated Russian disinformation effort aimed at undermining trust and spreading confusion.
Loss Figures Under Scrutiny
The Center emphasized that reports of compromised databases are completely false. Propagandists had previously circulated a figure of 1.7 million losses, but Center representatives clarified that
“no new data was fabricated—they simply added 700,000 to previous false numbers.”
For context, the most recent official casualty figures for Ukrainian forces were provided by President Volodymyr Zelensky in February 2026, when he stated that 55,000 Ukrainian military personnel had been killed since the start of the full-scale war.
This rebuttal is a critical step in countering disinformation, which is actively used to destabilize the situation in Ukraine. Such attacks aim to incite panic and erode public trust, making official statements from state bodies essential for maintaining information security. In wartime, it is especially important to scrutinize sources and verify facts to avoid falling prey to manipulation.
