Republican Bacon criticizes Trump for trusting Putin's words about drone attack.
According to ТСН: In the U.S., President Donald Trump's reaction to Russia's statements regarding the alleged attack of Ukrainian drones on Vladimir Putin's residence has been criticized. Congressman Don Bacon, a Republican from Nebraska, expressed his disagreement with the president's position.
The congressman noted that Trump and his team should first verify the facts before making public conclusions based on information from the Kremlin. He emphasized that Vladimir Putin has spread false information more than once. Bacon pointed out that blind trust in Moscow's statements seems particularly problematic in light of Russia's war against Ukraine.
Trump's Comment
Earlier, Trump expressed his outrage regarding Russia's information about an alleged nighttime attack by Ukrainian drones on the presidential residence in Novgorod region, noting that he was personally informed about this incident by Putin during a phone call.
Speaking to reporters at Mar-a-Lago after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump noted:
“One thing is verbal insults, another is an attack on a home,”emphasizing that now is “not the time for such actions,” referring to ongoing peace negotiations.
In response to a question from reporters, Trump admitted that he had no confirmed evidence of the attack and that the possibility of its nonexistence “is quite probable”.
Trump's Criticism
Don Bacon has publicly criticized Trump's position on the conflict in Ukraine before. The congressman, who is finishing his term, has repeatedly expressed support for a tough policy towards the Kremlin and emphasized the need to support Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky called the claims about the attack on Putin's residence “typical Russian lies,” stating that Moscow uses such statements to undermine diplomatic efforts to end the war.
