In Thailand, a crane collapsed on a train: at least 19 people dead.
According to ТСН: On Wednesday in north-eastern Thailand, a train derailed after a construction crane fell on three carriages. As a result of the incident, at least 19 people were killed, and about 80 were injured, the police reported.
Details of the Tragedy
The accident occurred in the morning in the Sihio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, approximately 230 km northeast of Bangkok. The train was traveling from the capital to Ubon Ratchathani province. Local police noted that among the debris, there may still be bodies of victims that have not been recovered.
“Nineteen bodies have been found, but some of them are still inside the carriages of the train, which are currently impossible to extract, as the crane began to move, so the team retreated, fearing danger,” said Police Colonel Tatchapon Chinnawong.
The Minister of Transport, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, confirmed that there were 195 passengers on board the train and promised to conduct a necessary investigation. He noted that the deceased were in two of the three carriages that were struck by the crane.
The crane, which was working on a high-speed rail project, collapsed and hit the train, causing it to derail and briefly catch fire.
Images published by the ministry show overturned carriages among the bushes, as well as firefighters attempting to extinguish the flames.
In another incident, there were reports of a collision between two trains on the outskirts of Munich, resulting in at least 30 passengers being injured. More than 200 rescuers were dispatched to the scene of the accident.
At the time of the collision, there were 95 passengers on both trains, and survivors were evacuated from the scene by buses due to the resulting danger.
This tragedy in Thailand has caused a huge resonance. Many people hurried to express their condolences and support for the victims and the families of the deceased. Investigating the circumstances of the accident is an important step in preventing similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the events in Munich serve as a reminder of the danger that passengers on the railway may face.
