Residents in Vyshhorod Cut Off From Shelter They Built Themselves.
Shelter Access Crisis in Vyshhorod
According to Novyny.live: In the Kyiv region city of Vyshhorod, locals have been locked out of a bomb shelter they personally renovated and maintained. This development comes amid a broader shelter shortfall across the city, where only some of the estimated 45 to 50 designated shelters are actually usable — a situation that has left many residents deeply concerned.
The basement space, which community members had turned into a functional bomb shelter, is now occupied by a charitable foundation, further complicating access. City officials report that these shelters can only be used after repairs are completed. However, residents have already been denied entry due to a decision made by the mayor.
Vladyslav Dulapchiy: 'In reality, of course, people can go down to the basement and wait out an alarm or a strike — but they could have done that before, before millions in budget funds were spent on these basements.'
This situation underscores the urgent need to resolve Vyshhorod's shelter problem to ensure the safety of local residents during emergencies.
The shelter issue in Vyshhorod has become a critical concern for the community, as public safety in the face of ongoing threats is now a top priority. The loss of access to self-built shelters, combined with the unusable state of many official facilities, creates serious risks in the event of an emergency.
Authorities must take immediate action to provide reliable shelters and resolve this crisis, guaranteeing the safety of residents when it is needed most.
