Medical professionals at Cedars-Sinai Hospital reported that the fully formed child of Suze Lopez was growing outside the womb, which is an extremely rare case in modern medicine.

Health and Hopes

Suze Lopez, a nurse from Bakersfield, had been suffering from pain for years due to a giant tumor in the area of her uterus. She sought surgical removal, hoping to solve a problem that significantly impaired her quality of life.

During standard preoperative examinations, doctors conducted a pregnancy test and unexpectedly received a positive result. Studies also revealed that Suze had a tumor weighing over 10 kg.

The woman gave birth to her first child at 20 but had been unsuccessfully trying to conceive again for 17 years. Due to health issues and age, she had almost lost hope of becoming a mother for the second time.

Initially, doctors thought the positive test might be false, as such results can sometimes occur due to large ovarian cysts or cancerous diseases. However, after experiencing severe abdominal pain, a detailed examination revealed an extraordinary picture.

The head of the maternity department at the hospital, John Ozimek, explained:

"We found a nearly full-term boy in a small space near the liver, with his pelvis resting on the uterus. A pregnancy developing so far from the womb is an extremely rare phenomenon."

Suze admitted that she couldn’t believe her ears. For years, she had suffered from irregular cycles and abdominal discomfort, not even suspecting that a child was growing in her body.

Challenging Surgery

Despite the positive news, doctors warned the family about significant risks. Ectopic pregnancies usually have a high mortality rate for both the mother and the child.

To save Suze and her baby, the hospital assembled a team of 30 specialists and special equipment. During the surgery, doctors simultaneously removed the tumor and extracted the baby from the abdominal cavity.

Anesthesiologist Michael Sanchez noted that after delivery, Suze experienced severe bleeding, but thanks to the prompt actions of the team and the use of 11 units of donor blood, she was able to stabilize her condition.
