Ukraine Considers Aid for Transnistria's Liberation, Subject to Moldovan Request.
Ukraine's Potential Role in Freeing Transnistria
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian officials are debating the possibility of assisting with the liberation of Transnistria, a breakaway region of Moldova. Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, has stated that any military assistance would only be provided at the formal request of Moldova's government in Chișinău. In an interview with 'European Pravda,' Sybiha noted that Ukraine is already actively supporting Moldova's efforts to reclaim the territory. This region has been under the control of Russian-backed separatists since a 1992 conflict.
Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence, has suggested that Ukraine possesses sufficient military capability to resolve the Transnistria issue. Andrii Sybiha further emphasized the critical importance of respecting a formal appeal from a friendly Moldova, stating:

Shared Border Infrastructure and European Integration
Discussions also encompass developing shared border infrastructure and unifying energy resources to reduce Moldova's dependence on Russian energy supplies. These measures, alongside Moldova's path to European Union membership, are seen as ways to stabilize the region and strengthen Ukraine's international standing.
The debate over potential Ukrainian aid for Transnistria's de-occupation represents a significant phase in shaping regional security and cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova. Ukraine's support could not only enhance Moldova's security but also bolster Ukraine's influence in the region, particularly given both nations' aspirations for European integration. The necessity of a formal request from Chișinău underscores the need for close interstate collaboration to achieve these shared strategic goals.
