International partners have proposed new ideas to accelerate the process of returning Ukrainians from captivity in Russia. The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, announced this after a two-day conference in Montreal dedicated to the release of detained individuals.

According to Lubinets, new approaches and intermediaries for the return of Ukrainian citizens from captivity were proposed. All these propositions have been taken into work. He also noted that there is already a patron country that will take on the functions of Ukrainian diplomats on the territory of the Russian Federation.

The main idea is to find a country that will act as a patron and assume obligations for the return of Ukrainian citizens. In such a case, diplomats of this country will be able to visit Ukrainian citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation. There is already one country that has offered its services, and this might become a breakthrough.

Let us remind you that there are countries ready to act as transit countries in the process of returning prisoners and deported individuals. Qatar is helping to return children, while the United Arab Emirates is helping to return servicemen. There are also other countries involved in these processes, but their names are not disclosed yet.

It is very important to pay attention to the fact that Ukrainian servicemen and civilians in Russian prisons are constantly subjected to torture. According to our data, 95% of them suffer from it. Therefore, it is important to demand from all countries to put pressure on Russia and use sanctions, as well as allow representatives of international organizations and the human rights sector to access Ukrainian citizens in captivity.

Russian troops continue to commit war crimes, including the execution of Ukrainian servicemen and the use of chemical weapons. Russian occupiers have also increased the number of deaths among Ukrainian servicemen in violation of the Geneva Convention.
