Ukraine Aims for EU Readiness by 2027: The Significance of This Goal.
Statement from Ukraine's President
According to UATV: On February 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is striving to be technically prepared for accession to the European Union by 2027. As part of this process, the EU is developing a plan for Ukraine's partial membership to be realized in that year. This ambition represents a key strategic objective for the nation as it continues to defend its sovereignty.
The Critical Need for a Clear Timeline
Zelenskyy stressed the vital importance of having specific deadlines in this matter.
"I want a concrete date," he emphasized. He added that security guarantees for Ukraine must also be linked to a definitive timeline:
"Security guarantees for Ukraine are specifics with a specific date."
The President further noted that his signature on a 20-point plan concerning ending the war 'guarantees Ukrainians that there will be a specific date for our accession.' Consequently, Ukrainian authorities are working to establish clear prospects for European integration, a crucial step in the country's development. This push for clarity is seen as a way to bolster domestic political support and secure international backing for Ukraine's reform agenda.
President Zelenskyy's declaration reflects Ukraine's strategic intent regarding European integration, a paramount goal for the nation, especially amid the ongoing war and regional instability. Establishing clear timelines and plans can strengthen internal political unity and foster international recognition of Ukraine's efforts on its path toward the EU. It is essential that these efforts are accompanied by tangible reforms in the political and economic spheres to meet the Union's requirements. The journey toward membership involves rigorous alignment with EU standards across numerous sectors.
