Ukraine plans to increase electricity imports from the European Union in winter, reports the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. This decision was made as part of an agreement between Ukraine and the EU, which provides for an increase in supply capacity from 1.7 to 2.1 GW from December 1 of this year. This will make the Ukrainian energy system more resistant to Russian attacks.

In addition, Ukraine will have the opportunity for guaranteed 250 MW capacity flows from the EU in emergency mode. It should be noted that this decision was discussed at a meeting of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in September in Kyiv.

Currently, the Ukrainian energy system is allowed to export up to 550 MW and import up to 1700 MW. Due to the low throughput capacity of interstate connections, Ukraine failed to achieve the target of 2.2 GW imports.

Earlier, Poland expressed readiness to supply electricity to Ukraine in winter.
