Ukraine Makes Urgent Appeal to 40 Nations for Patriot Missile Supplies.
International Support Sought Amid Escalating Attacks
According to UATV: Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urgently appealed to nearly 40 countries for Patriot air defense system missiles. This request comes as Russia launches massive strikes on Ukrainian cities, including one of the largest offensives since the full-scale invasion began. During that operation, Russian forces deployed nearly 500 attack drones and 77 missiles, 25 of which were ballistic or hypersonic weapons.
Despite the high effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense forces—intercepting over 90% of cruise missiles and 90% of Shahed drones—the need for additional protective systems remains critical. The scale of the attacks underscores the ongoing threat and the necessity for rapid reinforcement.
Deepening Ties with International Partners
In April 2023, Ukraine signed a record-breaking contract for hundreds of PAC-2 missiles for the Patriot system, supported by Germany. Deliveries are scheduled over the coming years. This year, for the first time, Ukraine began receiving Patriot missiles from European partner stockpiles. Additionally, on June 18, 2023, Ukraine and Germany signed an agreement to jointly develop interceptor missiles, highlighting their expanding defense cooperation.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry stressed that 'it is critically important to make a decision ahead of the NATO summit.'
This situation underscores the urgent need for international community support as Ukraine continues to face severe threats from Russia. Given the intensity of the attacks, partner nations must respond swiftly by providing the necessary resources to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses against potential future assaults. The evolving collaboration with Germany and other allies could prove decisive in countering aggression and ensuring regional stability.
