Ukraine Pushes Russian Forces Out of Kupyansk as Moscow Plans a Fresh Offensive in Donbas.
Latest Developments on the Frontline
According to TSN.ua: Despite ongoing offensive operations by the Russian military that have yet to yield significant gains, the frontline in Ukraine remains largely stable. Ukrainian troops are steadily driving Russian forces out of Kupyansk, while Moscow is preparing a new wave of attacks targeting Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
In April and May, Russian commanders intend to ramp up their efforts, including an attempt to seize Kostiantynivka by April 25. Meanwhile, on March 12, the analytical project DeepState reported assaults on the settlements of Rodynske and Gryshyne. However, by mid-March, the pace of Russian advances had dropped several times compared to the previous year. In January 2026, Russian forces captured roughly 240 km² of territory; in February, that figure fell to 120 km²; and in the first half of March, they managed only about 50 km². Over the same period, Ukrainian forces liberated more than 400 km².
Assessment of the Situation
Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Russian president, stated that
“Russia must decide to ensure Ukrainian troops leave the territory of Donbas.”This remark underscores the ongoing struggle for control of these areas. Military expert James Everard also weighed in, noting that
“Whoever dominates the depth can choke the other side by cutting off supply and reinforcement flows.”His comment highlights the critical role of logistics in the conflict.
The situation in eastern Ukraine remains tense, with both sides preparing for further action. Ukrainian forces continue to hold their positions, while Russian troops try to regain the initiative. Given the instability and active combat, the frontline is expected to stay dynamic in the coming weeks.
Recent events show that both sides are still engaged in active military operations, but the growing amount of territory reclaimed by Ukrainian forces points to their effectiveness on the battlefield. With Russia gearing up for new offensives, control over logistics routes and key areas is becoming crucial for both parties. The next few weeks could prove decisive for the conflict's trajectory as each side seeks to strengthen its position ahead of potential fresh attacks.
