Amount of Fines for Illegal Timber Activities

Under Ukrainian law, fines for ordinary citizens involved in illegal timber activities range from 510 to 1,020 hryvnias. For officials, the penalties are significantly higher—between 2,550 and 5,100 hryvnias. Repeat offenses carry even steeper fines:

• For citizens: from 1,020 to 1,530 hryvnias;
• For officials: from 10,200 to 15,300 hryvnias.

Additionally, under Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, fines for illegal logging can reach between 17,000 and 25,500 hryvnias. In cases of repeat violations or actions committed by a group, punishments may include imprisonment for 5 to 7 years.

According to Article 108 of the Forest Code of Ukraine, all illegally harvested timber is subject to confiscation. Experts urge citizens to be cautious when selecting firewood suppliers. As Mykola Kovalenko notes,
