Arctic Freeze Grips Ukraine, Bringing Temperatures as Low as -28°C.
Severe Arctic Cold Sweeps Across Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: An Arctic air mass, driven by an anticyclone from the north, has plunged Ukraine into a deep freeze as of February 3rd. This extreme weather event is part of a pattern of unusually cold conditions affecting the region. In the country's southwest, nighttime temperatures are expected to plummet to -28°C. Other regions, including the south and southeast, will see lows ranging from -17°C to -22°C. Daytime highs will be frigid for most areas, between -14°C and -20°C, while the south will be slightly warmer at -4°C to -11°C.
In the capital, Kyiv, overnight lows will reach -22°C to -25°C, with daytime temperatures around -15°C. The Zakarpattia region presents a stark contrast, with temperatures hovering near zero. According to meteorologists, these severe frosts will persist across Ukraine on February 3rd, with no precipitation expected.
Forecast for the Coming Days
February has begun with anomalous cold, but meteorologist Vitaliy Pistryan notes that the freeze is expected to ease starting February 5th. However, forecaster Natalka Didenko warns that after this brief warming, another significant cold snap could follow. Ukrainians should therefore prepare for fluctuating weather conditions in the near future.
The current freeze poses a significant strain on national infrastructure. Energy consumption for electricity and heating is surging, requiring utility companies to be prepared for peak demand to prevent outages. Furthermore, the severe cold complicates transportation and logistics, demanding extra efforts from relevant services to maintain road safety and supply chains.
