Ultimatum for Putin: What the Opposition of Germany Proposes.
Friedrich Merz, the leader of the German opposition, expressed the opinion that Russian President Vladimir Putin should receive an ultimatum from Chancellor Olaf Scholz regarding the war in Ukraine.
According to Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany, together with the leaders of France and the United Kingdom, should have taken a tougher stance on Russian aggression.
"If you do not stop your war of terror against the peaceful population of Ukraine within 24 hours, then the restrictions on the range of weapons supplied to Ukraine will be lifted," - such an ultimatum, according to Merz, should have been voiced by Western leaders.
The politician also noted that if the first warning does not have an effect, the next step could be the transfer of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine to destroy Russian supply lines.
Merz emphasized that France and the United Kingdom are already supplying similar weapon systems to Ukraine. He believes that Scholz's indecisiveness is related to the desire to maintain the image of a "chancellor of peace" ahead of the upcoming federal elections in Germany.
Recall that earlier the head of the Bundestag defense committee disclosed a conflict with Scholz over weapons for Ukraine.
