Ukraine eases housing program rules for medical workers – here are the regions now included.
Updated housing support program for healthcare professionals
According to Novyny.live: The Ukrainian government has introduced changes to its housing initiative for medical staff, simplifying eligibility and extending the program to additional areas. These updates were approved through Cabinet Resolution No. 900 on July 16, 2025, and now cover cities in the Mykolaiv region, including the city of Mykolaiv itself.
Under the new rules, the maximum required work experience at a healthcare facility has been extended from 120 days to one year. This adjustment allows more medical professionals to qualify, as the previous requirements were more restrictive. Additionally, the period for posting a vacancy on the Unified Job Portal has been reduced from 90 days to 60 days, which is expected to speed up the recruitment of specialists into medical institutions.
Housing size limits and who can apply
Regarding housing conditions, maximum floor area limits for new homes have been established:
- For apartments: no more than 115.5 square meters;
- For houses: no more than 125.5 square meters.
Eligible participants include Ukrainian citizens aged up to 50 who hold official positions classified under the 'Specialists' or 'Professionals' categories.
Overall, these revisions to the medical workers' housing program aim not only to improve conditions for healthcare staff but also to attract new professionals to regions facing a shortage of medical personnel.
The changes to the housing program for medical workers could significantly impact the development of healthcare infrastructure in areas with staffing shortages. By extending the required work experience period and shortening the vacancy posting timeline, more doctors and nurses can secure housing, which in turn may enhance the quality of medical services and improve access to healthcare for the population.
