A Painting Stolen by Nazis Found in Argentina: The Story of the Discovery.
According to Korrespondent.net: A painting 'Portrait of a Lady' by Italian artist Vittore Ghislandi has been discovered in Argentina. This artwork was stolen by the Nazis during World War II in Amsterdam, reports NOS citing the newspaper AD.
The masterpiece was found by journalists – it adorned the wall of the living room in one of the houses put up for sale, and was clearly visible in the interior photograph.
The canvas previously belonged to a well-known Jewish art dealer, Jacques Goudstikker, who perished during the Nazi persecutions. His collection was confiscated and partially sold. The portrait ended up in the possession of the financial advisor to Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, Friedrich Karg. After the war, he fled to South America, and the trail of the painting disappeared in 1946 in Switzerland.
Investigation of the Circumstances
Currently, historians and art historians are trying to determine how the masterpiece ended up in Argentina and what the chances are of its return to the heirs.
Previously, there was also a report about an incident in Florence where a visitor damaged the portrait of a Tuscan prince from the 17th century while attempting to take an impressive selfie.
