In India, a newborn buried alive has been rescued: the child's condition remains severe.
According to inkorr.com: A horrific incident occurred in India: a 20-day-old girl was found alive, buried underground. She is currently in intensive care, where doctors are trying to save her life. This was reported by 'Glavcom', citing information from the BBC.
The child was accidentally discovered by a local shepherd who heard faint crying from underground. Realizing it was a baby, he called the villagers who summoned the police. The law enforcement officers rescued the girl and took her to the hospital.
Life threat due to contamination and infection
Doctor Rajesh Kumar noted that the girl's condition is very serious. She was covered in dirt, had breathing problems as soil had entered her mouth and nose. The child also had marks from insect bites and a possible animal attack. At first, her condition improved somewhat, but later it worsened due to infection.
'The prognosis is not the best, but we are doing everything possible to save the child,' Kumar emphasized.
The police have initiated an investigation to identify the girl's parents.
Problems of traditional prejudices in India
According to the BBC, similar cases in India are often related to prejudices where sons are considered more valuable. Human rights organizations emphasize that girls are often killed, especially in poor families. Despite the ban on determining a child's gender before birth, underground clinics and the killing of newborn girls remain urgent issues. Millions of women in India are at risk.
The tragedy in India is a disturbing signal of the traditional prejudices and gender discrimination that still exist in society. Such cases indicate the need for active advocacy for the rights and protection of the most vulnerable groups, as similar situations may recur if proper measures are not taken.
