Smuggling Ring for Draft-Age Men Busted in Odesa Region: Fees and Details Revealed.
Illegal Escape Route for Military-Age Men Dismantled
According to Novyny.live: Authorities in Ukraine’s Odesa region have uncovered a scheme that illegally transported draft-eligible men across the border through Transnistria. Law enforcement officers detained the organizers and participants as they attempted to cross the frontier. Among those arrested was a 44-year-old resident of Odesa, who coordinated the movement of men of conscription age to the border area. The cost for this unlawful crossing ranged from $6,500 to $7,000 US dollars.
The transport organizer now faces suspicion under Article 332 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code. A court placed him under house arrest as a preventive measure. Two other individuals, aged 68 and 29, were also detained for their involvement. The older suspect remains under house arrest, while the younger one is in custody. If convicted, the maximum penalty under this article is nine years in prison, along with confiscation of property.
Further Arrests and Legal Consequences
In connection with this case, another 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen was apprehended while trying to illegally cross into Moldova. A court found the Odesa resident guilty of assisting military-age men in reaching the border and sentenced him to five years in prison. This crackdown highlights the intensified efforts by law enforcement to combat the illegal departure of draft-eligible men from Ukraine.
The situation underscores the critical need to comply with military service laws in Ukraine, especially amid the ongoing armed conflict. Authorities continue to actively identify and shut down such smuggling networks, reflecting growing concern over the unauthorized exit of conscription-age individuals.
This exposure demonstrates the stepped-up actions by law enforcement in curbing the illegal outflow of military-obligated men abroad.
