Three Minors Caught Driving in Odesa Region in One Week: Parents Face Fines Up to 1,700 Hryvnias.
Minors Behind the Wheel: A Growing Concern in Odesa Region
According to Novyny.live: Over the past week, police in Odesa Oblast apprehended three underage individuals driving without licenses. The incidents occurred in Ananyev, located in the Podilsk district. Among those caught were two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old girl, all flagged for traffic violations.
Under Ukrainian law, parents of these minors may face legal consequences under Part 3 of Article 184 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses. This provision allows for fines of up to 1,700 hryvnias for failing to properly fulfill child-rearing duties. This legal framework aims to hold guardians accountable for their children's actions on the road.
Traffic Rules and Road Safety
Current regulations permit driving a moped from age 16, while a driver's license for cars can only be obtained at 18. This case highlights the critical need for both young people and their parents to adhere to traffic laws and take responsibility for road safety.
Beyond these incidents, the Odesa region has seen other serious road events. In the city of Bilyayivka, a fatal crash claimed the life of a 62-year-old driver. In the Berezivskyi district, an accident involving a drunk driver left two female passengers injured. Additionally, on February 14, a three-vehicle collision in central Odesa resulted in two people being hurt. These cases underscore a rising road safety crisis in the area.
The detection of underage drivers in the Odesa region underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
Road safety is becoming an increasingly pressing issue, as accidents and violations involving youth and intoxicated drivers continue to climb. The role of parents in teaching their children about road safety remains a critical concern, as they are key to fostering responsible behavior behind the wheel.
