In Odesa, they propose to replace the bust of Pushkin with a monument to Trump: details of the petition

According to ТСН: A petition has been registered in Odesa proposing to remove the bust of the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin from Birzhevaya Square on Primorsky Boulevard and replace it with a monument to US President Donald Trump.

The initiator of this initiative is Odesa resident Timur Vending. The petition has been published on the platform "Socially Active Citizen".

Signature Collection Process

The collection of signatures will last until April 8, 2026. At the time of publication of the news, the petition has been supported by 14 people out of the required thousand.

The Importance of Modern Values

The initiator points out that monumental art in public spaces should reflect current social contexts and contemporary processes.

"Public spaces can reflect not only historical heritage but also modern values, discussions, and cultural processes"

Vending emphasizes that Donald Trump is one of the most influential figures in world politics of the 21st century, significantly impacting international relations and the global order. He believes that installing a monument to the American president should be considered as a contemporary artistic expression and an opportunity for public discussion.

Preserving History

Moreover, the initiator stresses that the bust of Pushkin should not be destroyed. It is planned to be dismantled and transferred to a museum or another specialized cultural space to preserve the monument in the proper historical context.

The proposed changes in Odesa are causing a wide resonance. In modern society, the issues of identity and the reflection of history in public spaces are becoming increasingly relevant. It is doubtful that Vending's initiative will be the last, and discussions about monumental art in the context of modern realities and values will continue in Ukraine.
