American Congressman on Searches of Yermak: Evidence of Democracy in Action

According to ТСН: The reaction of Western allies to important events in Ukrainian politics has not been long in coming. While details of investigative actions regarding the former head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, were being discussed in Kyiv, this was perceived in Washington as a positive signal. An American legislator noted that this is how democratic institutions should function, unlike the methods of authoritarian neighbors, where problems are solved through the physical removal of unwanted officials.

This was stated by U.S. Congressman Don Bacon in his publication on social media X.

Assessment of the American Politician

Don Bacon, a representative of the Republican Party, positively assessed the morning news from Kyiv. He noted the actions of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, which conducted searches at Andriy Yermak's premises.

In his opinion, the fact that law enforcement can come to a representative of such a high level with a warrant indicates the effectiveness of the system. It shows Western partners that anti-corruption bodies in Ukraine work autonomously and independently of positions.

Contrast with Russian Methods

Bacon emphasized the difference between democratic Ukraine and authoritarian Russia, making a stark comparison. He recalled how in the aggressor country, political figures often 'solve issues' physically or eliminate them to favor the regime.

The politician stressed the importance of a civilized legal process as a key distinction worth cherishing.

‘In Ukraine, independent law enforcement and judicial bodies operate. This does not happen in Russia. There, you are thrown out of apartment windows,’

– wrote the congressman.

It should be noted that there have been numerous cases in Russia where high-ranking officials or businessmen have 'fallen' out of windows. For example, this summer in Moscow, another top oil executive, Deputy President of Transneft Andriy Badalov, mysteriously died after falling from a 17th-floor window in Rublyovka.

Regarding Yermak's resignation, The Guardian's correspondent noted that it was the 'smartest move by Zelensky.' The journalist emphasized that the consequences of dismissing the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine would affect not only the internal political situation in Ukraine but also the progress of peace negotiations.

Statements from U.S. officials indicate that Western allies are closely monitoring developments in Ukraine and support reforms aimed at combating corruption. This may indicate a potential strengthening of relations between Ukraine and the United States amid the current political situation.
