Potato prices have fallen by 18%: why Ukrainians buy only large tubers.
According to inkorr.com: This week, prices for potatoes in Ukraine are decreasing. Wholesale prices range from 9 to 16 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 10% less than last week. This information is provided by the EastFruit project.
Reasons for the price decrease
The main reason for the depreciation is the start of potato harvest in key regions and the increase in supplies of late varieties to the market, analysts explained.
Change in demand
Farmers note that this year buyers have become more demanding regarding the quality of potatoes. In particular, the demand for small potatoes is almost non-existent — consumers prefer medium or large tubers. Due to significant harvest yields, potato prices have fallen on average by 18% and are unlikely to increase in the near future.
The decrease in potato prices in Ukraine began earlier this week due to increased supply volumes after the start of the harvest. This trend is explained by higher demand for medium and large tubers, as well as buyers' selectiveness regarding product quality.
