Ukraine will start production of Japanese pickups.
Ukraine will embark on a project to produce Japanese pickups using the large-scale assembly (SKD) technology. This is a joint project of several Ukrainian manufacturers and a Japanese machine-building company, the Ministry of Economy reported.
'In collaboration with Ukrainian partners, the Japanese company plans to start producing pickups using the large-scale assembly technology, and in the future, they plan to switch to small-scale production (CKD). This is a good signal for other Japanese investors that localizing the production of their products in Ukraine is mutually beneficial cooperation. During a meeting with over 200 Japanese entrepreneurs, the first Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, urged other companies to establish production facilities in Ukraine or localize their technologies in cooperation with Ukrainian companies,' - emphasized Yulia Svyrydenko during the business forum organized by the Japan External Trade Organization.
Yulia Svyrydenko noted that currently, more than 40 key Japanese companies operate in Ukraine.
'Ukraine has a long-standing production and engineering tradition, a significant modern equipment park, making Ukrainian industrial enterprises promising partners for production cooperation with Japanese companies. The government, for its part, offers support in the form of compensation for projects involving substantial investments and tax and customs incentives within industrial parks. Additionally, Ukraine is developing tools for insurance against war risks together with its partners,' - Yulia Svyrydenko added.
According to her, investors can currently access insurance against war risks from the American agency for International Development financing DFC, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), foreign export credit agencies, and the Ukrainian ECA.
Yulia Svyrydenko thanked Japan for its contribution of 36 million dollars to the SURE Trust Fund. This strengthens the capabilities of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
The minister also expressed gratitude to Japanese international cooperation agencies JICA and JICS for projects supporting Ukraine, including the placement of orders at Ukrainian enterprises and the implementation of the principle of 'help Ukraine with Ukrainian goods', as well as to the Japanese export credit agency NEXI.
'Japan allocated approximately 1.25 billion euros through NEXI initiatives, providing reliable financial support for Japanese companies ready to invest and operate in the Ukrainian market. We expect to strengthen cooperation between the Ukrainian Export Credit Agency and NEXI, especially in mobilizing capital for the Ukrainian ECA, as well as further collaboration with Ukrainian businesses in key economic sectors to attract Japanese technologies,' - Yulia Svyrydenko added.
