Party of thousands of dolphins: a drone filmed a unique phenomenon.
In Carmel Bay, located on the California coast (USA), a rare phenomenon occurred, which was captured using modern technologies. Captain Evan Brodsky from the Monterey Bay Whale Watch organization, which observes sea mammals, filmed dolphins from above. According to him, the large school of gray dolphins contains more than 1500 individuals.
Gray dolphins, which can grow up to 4 meters in length and weigh about 500 kilograms, feed on squid. They are found in temperate and tropical seas around the world.
Colleen Tilty, a marine biologist who participated in this expedition, noted that the dolphins behaved very playfully and actively interacted with the vessel. They used the waves from the boat to accelerate, jumped out of the water, slapped their tails, and swam up to the vessel. It looked like they were having a real party.
Initially, the research team thought that there were only a few hundred dolphins in their sighting, but after launching the drone, it became clear that their number exceeded 1500. Evan Brodsky was amazed by what he saw and was showing his screen to others so they could witness this wonderful sight.
One of the most incredible moments for the researchers was when several dolphins swam closer to the vessel and looked closely at Colleen. The team tried not to disturb the animals and kept the vessel steady so as not to harm the dolphins.
Observing such a large school of gray dolphins became an incredible experience even for experienced scientists. This phenomenon constantly captivates and amazes and reminds us of the richness and diversity of marine fauna.
We remind you that due to the accident of two Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait, an ecological disaster occurred, leading to the death of at least 32 cetaceans.
