The 'Thousand Springs' Initiative

According to UATV: Vadym Lubchak, Deputy Director for Digital Product Development at the Multimedia Broadcasting Platform of Ukraine, has joined the expert panel of the 'Thousand Springs' initiative. This state program, launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is designed to bolster Ukrainian cultural production with a budget of 4 billion hryvnias (approximately $100 million). For context, this funding comes at a time when Ukraine is seeking to strengthen its national identity and cultural exports amid ongoing challenges.

The 'Thousand Springs' program has brought together over 120 cultural professionals. The application period recently closed, and the commission is now reviewing 1,151 proposals totaling 10.8 billion hryvnias. Each application will be assessed using ten criteria to identify the most promising projects for funding.

Digital Platforms and Their Role

Lubchak emphasized the growing influence of digital platforms, stating that

“digital platforms have become a powerful tool for shaping public opinion”
. He added that
“Thousand Springs will help projects find their voice and audience”
. The initiative covers a wide range of creative fields, including:

  • audiovisual shows and social media videos;
  • feature films and documentaries;
  • projects in contemporary music, performance art, and visual arts.

Expert Tetiana Berezhna noted that 'Thousand Springs has brought together a unique community of cultural experts'. Beyond funding existing initiatives, the program aims to create new opportunities for Ukrainian culture to thrive in the face of modern challenges.
