Exemptions from Military Call-Up: Family Circumstances That Grant Deferral.
Who Qualifies for a Military Service Deferral Due to Family Reasons
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian law provides for the possibility of deferring military call-up for specific categories of citizens. This includes those with three or more minor children, or those caring for disabled relatives. On January 29, 2023, the Kyiv Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support clarified the conditions under which such a deferral is possible. These provisions are part of Ukraine's legal framework for managing mobilization during the ongoing war with Russia.
Eligibility Criteria for Deferral
Citizens who support three or more minor children are eligible for a deferral. The same applies to individuals providing care for disabled relatives or children with disabilities. Relatives of military personnel who have been killed or gone missing in action also have the right to a deferment. To confirm eligibility for exemption from mobilization, supporting documents must be submitted to the Territorial Recruitment Center. Required documents include:
- Children's birth certificates,
- Disability certificates,
- Court decisions on guardianship.
Applications to process or extend a deferral are accepted by staff at Administrative Services Centers (TSNAPs). Citizens with disabilities themselves are also entitled to a mobilization deferral. It is crucial to understand that being deemed ineligible for service due to family circumstances does not automatically place you on a list exempt from reporting to the recruitment center.
This information is vital for many Ukrainian families navigating mobilization issues amid the ongoing conflict. Establishing clear conditions for deferrals helps alleviate the social burden on households requiring support during these difficult times.
