Ukraine's Parliament Approves Deferment for Contract Soldiers After Service.
Reforms to Mobilization Policy for Military Personnel
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Mykhailo Fedorov, has announced that parliament has approved a new policy. This change guarantees soldiers serving under the '18-24 month contract' the right to a deferment from future mobilization once their service is complete. This move is a significant step in supporting the troops who fulfill their duties under this specific contract. The decision comes as Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty against the ongoing Russian invasion.
On February 11, the Verkhovna Rada agreed to grant this deferment following a year of service, specifically for personnel who signed contracts lasting 18 to 24 months. Minister Fedorov expressed his gratitude to the members of parliament for backing this crucial initiative.
'I thank the people's deputies for supporting this important decision—the adoption of changes that guarantee soldiers under the 'Contract 18–24' the mandatory right to a deferment from mobilization after completing their service.' Mykhailo Fedorov
These amendments represent a major achievement for service members, who will now be able to claim a deferment after fulfilling their duties. This reflects the state's commitment to the social protection of its military forces.
Social Protections for Military Personnel
The adoption of these changes highlights the increasing attention the Ukrainian government is paying to the needs and social rights of its soldiers. Amid the protracted conflict, it is vital to support those serving on the front lines and to create conditions for their reintegration after service. This policy could positively impact military morale by providing a measure of stability and certainty for life after their contract ends.
