ETIAS Travel Permit: New Fee for Ukrainians Entering the EU from 2026.
New Entry Requirements for Ukrainians Traveling to the EU
According to TSN.ua: Starting in late 2026, Ukrainian citizens will need to obtain a paid ETIAS travel authorization to enter European Union countries, altering the terms of the current visa-free arrangement. This new system will allow Ukrainians to secure entry permission through an online application. The ETIAS is part of a broader EU initiative to enhance border security and pre-screen travelers from visa-exempt countries.
ETIAS Permit: Cost and Validity
The application fee for the ETIAS permit will be 20 euros, which is approximately 1,016 Ukrainian hryvnias. Once granted, the authorization will be valid for three years or until the holder's passport expires, whichever comes first. With this permit, Ukrainians will be permitted multiple entries into the 30 countries of the European Union.
- Payment for the permit must be made exclusively online.
- The application fee is non-refundable under any circumstances, which could pose a financial risk for applicants uncertain of their eligibility.
Consequently, Ukrainians should prepare for these new conditions, which take effect in late 2026, and factor the cost of the ETIAS permit into their travel plans to the EU.
The implementation of the ETIAS system is part of a wider European effort to strengthen border security controls. While it introduces an extra step for Ukrainian travelers, similar measures are already in place for citizens of many other non-EU nations. It is crucial for Ukrainian citizens to stay informed about these upcoming requirements to avoid any unexpected complications during future trips to Europe.
