Salary Overhaul for Police and Rescue Personnel

According to Novyny.live: Starting January 1, 2027, police officers and rescue workers in Ukraine will see their salaries increase, along with expanded social guarantees. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed the Law 'On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Regarding the Modernization of Financial Support.' Under the new rules, the financial compensation for these workers cannot fall below 10 times the subsistence minimum, which as of January 1, 2026, will exceed 33,000 hryvnias.

Their total pay will be composed of several elements, including:

  • a base salary for the position,
  • a salary based on special rank,
  • a seniority bonus,
  • bonuses and other payments.

This reform aims to improve the financial standing of law enforcement and emergency responders, who perform critical roles in society. For context, Ukraine has been gradually reforming its public sector pay to better reflect the demands and risks of these professions.

Additionally, police officers serving abroad will continue to receive their salaries in hryvnias. This measure is designed to ensure income stability for these personnel, regardless of their duty station. Families of police officers who are captured or reported missing will also receive their base financial support and additional payments, marking an important step in assisting their relatives during difficult times.

Improvements in Service Conditions

Through these changes, the Ukrainian government is advancing efforts to enhance service conditions for police and rescue workers, reflecting the state's commitment to social protection for these groups.

This salary increase is part of a broader government strategy to improve working conditions in the security sector, which could boost motivation and job performance. The support for families of law enforcement personnel in challenging situations also highlights the state's focus on social issues tied to service amid modern-day challenges.
