In Poltava Region, three people were rescued from an icy trap on the Dnipro: details of the operation.
According to ТСН: On New Year's Eve, an incident occurred in Poltava Region that nearly ended in tragedy. In the village of Hradizk in the Kremenchuk district at 23:48, when most Ukrainians were celebrating, the emergency services received a distress call. A man reported a boat with passengers trapped in an icy trap in the middle of the Dnipro.
According to the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Poltava Region, the boat became stuck in the floodplain of the Dnipro River, with two men and a woman on board. They were unable to get to the shore on their own.
Trap 200 meters from the shore
One of the men managed to reach the shore, despite the thin and fragile ice. He alerted the rescuers about the dangerous situation.
Fight for survival
The second man also tried to get out himself, but the ice could not hold. He began to fall into the water and quickly lost strength, calling for help.
The rescue services reacted immediately: with the help of a rescue rope, they pulled the man from the icy water when he was about 50 meters from the shore.
Rescue of the woman
The most difficult part of the mission was the evacuation of the third passenger, who remained on the boat far from the shore. The rescuers used a hovercraft for this.
The rescuers reached the boat, transferred the woman to the hovercraft, and safely delivered her to land in the new year.
The reasons why those rescued ended up in the middle of the river in the last moments of the year were not disclosed by the State Emergency Service.
This incident once again highlights the importance of following safety rules during celebrations, even when it seems like a simple and safe activity. Rescue services are always ready to help, but it is better to avoid dangerous situations. It is important to remember the risks, especially during festive outings on the water, where there can not only be pleasant moments but also the possibility of encountering danger.
