The Death of Ihor Trachuk: How the Hero Defended Ukraine from Occupiers.

Senior lieutenant Ihor Trachuk tragically died on January 10, 2024, as a result of a mortar shelling in the Bohdanivka area of Donetsk region. At the time of his death, he was 53 years old. The information was provided by 'Glavkom', citing data from the Chernivtsi regional council.
Life Path
Ihor Petrovych Trachuk was born on August 24, 1970, in the village of Chudey. After finishing school, he entered the National University of Water Management and Nature Management in Rivne. After graduation, he worked as an engineer in the city of Storozhynets. Overall, he was an active person, fond of sports, especially boxing and football.
“He was always there, supported me and the children, defended us no matter what happened. When one of us was sick or feeling bad, he would sit close. Sometimes he wouldn’t sleep until morning because he was worried,” recalls the defender's wife, Liudmyla.
Military Feat
Ihor Trachuk decided to defend his native land from the enemy from the very first days of the full-scale invasion. He told his family: “I am going so the Moskal does not come to our house. I am going so that you have a future, so that you are not all slaves.”
The defender served in the 94th battalion of the 107th separate brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Together with his brothers-in-arms, he defended Ukraine in the hottest spots, such as Bakhmut, Lyman, Makiivka, Chasiv Yar, and New York.
For a long time, he fulfilled the duties of a company commander and platoon leader. His comrades remember Ihor as brave, decisive, and professional, like a true officer.
Honoring Memory
Ihor Trachuk died on January 10, 2024, during a hostile mortar shelling in Bohdanivka, Donetsk region. He left behind a wife and two children. He is buried in Storozhynets.
“A volunteer who was a model of resilience and strength of the Ukrainian spirit, encouraged his comrades, and led them forward. Resolute in battle, for his family, Ihor Trachuk always remained a good and just husband and father,” noted the Chernivtsi regional council.

We remember the victims of Russian invaders and light candles of remembrance during the nationwide moment of silence, honoring those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine, including military personnel, civilians, and children.
