Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives have been taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, we remember Oleksiy Naborsky.

Oleksiy Naborsky died on October 21, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission to evacuate the wounded in the village of Kurdiumivka, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region. This was reported by the Vinnytsia City Council.

Oleksiy was born on April 2, 1993, and was an ordinary boy from the outskirts of Vinnytsia, living with his parents in Vinnytsky Khutory, not far from the regional center. He initially chose one of the most peaceful professions - he wanted to save lives. Thus, he trained at the Pogribishchensky Medical College in the 'Medical Affairs' department. He later worked at the city emergency hospital.

However, life took a different turn, and Oleksiy chose another path that still allowed him to help people: in 2018, he decided to become a law enforcement officer. He worked as a patrol officer in Vinnytsia. After the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he went to serve in a combat unit - the 'Vinnytsia' battalion. Because he realized he was more needed in the war.

He COULD have avoided the war, but he COULD NOT avoid the war...

As reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in Vinnytsia region, after the de-occupation of Bucha and Irpin, he decided not to leave his country due to the threats to his loved ones.

Oleksiy defended the country as part of the United Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine 'Lut'. Here he had to use his medical skills: he became a paramedic and saved the lives of wounded comrades.

Oleksiy's mother, Maria Vasylivna, recounts that he was a caring boy and a devoted son, respected by people. Everyone knew him as a very decent person.

'At the beginning of the pandemic, I got sick. I had a severe form of COVID, I was on a ventilator. The doctors had almost lost hope for me. At that Time, Oleksiy was still working in the hospital. He literally saved me! After his death, I found myself in the hospital again. Then I realized I didn’t know everything about my son. I saw how much his colleagues respected and loved him, I heard how grateful the patients were to him,' the woman recounts.

The hero's mother recalls that on the night of his death, Oleksiy came to her in a dream to say goodbye.

'I had never dreamed of my child before, but that night I had a dream. A forest, a hut, next to it was Oleksiy in combat gear with a rifle. He looked at me, said nothing, and left. I scream: son, why have you left me? I don’t know where to go and what to do! But he turned around, waved his hand to me, and went away. In the evening, we found out that Oleksiy died around the same time I had that dream. It turns out he was saying goodbye to me,' recalls Maria Vasylivna.

The commander of the combat unit - a second father for the fighter

Oleksiy's mother says that her son always spoke warmly of his battalion commander - Ruslan Hurnyak, 'Father', whom he followed from the 'Vinnytsia' battalion to 'Lut'.

'Ruslan Hurnyak called us and asked for forgiveness for not being able to save our son's life. You cannot imagine how anxiously he said this, you cannot imagine how important this is for us, as parents. I became convinced of my son's words that he was like a father to them in the war. Moreover, our Oleksiy died, one could say, in the commander’s sight - he saw the shelling through a drone's video feed,' the mother recounts.

The most terrifying thing in wartime, shares Ruslan Hurnyak, is not even the death of a comrade, but the need to inform the relatives of the deceased.

'Oleksiy was a very skilled paramedic. He was best at saving people. He was completely different, unlike anyone else, one word - a kind soul. That’s why his call sign in the police was warmly friendly - 'Lyochik',' recalls the commander.

Maria Vasylivna remembers how just about ten days before the tragedy, he confessed that he intended to get married, planning to finish legal studies after the victory and build a career as a police officer. But it turned out differently. On October 21, 2023, Oleksiy was killed while evacuating the wounded near Kurdiumivka by Bakhmut. The Hummer car used by the paramedic was hit by an enemy guided anti-tank missile, and he died.

A sergeant of platoon No. 1 of company No. 3 of assault battalion No. 2 of the assault regiment 'Peacekeeper' of the Special Purpose Police Department 'United Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine 'Lut' Oleksiy Naborsky was buried in Vinnytsky Khutory. He did not like to be photographed, so his gravestone depicts him from one of the very few pictures. This photo shows him with an owl that he rescued when the injured bird got caught in the net. He took care of it, fed it with his rations, and released it into the wild...

'Glavkom' joins in a moment of silence. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who lost their lives in the war with Russia.
