Zaluzhny warned of the threat of civil war after demobilization

According to ТСН: The former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom, Valerii Zaluzhny, drew attention to the risks that may threaten veterans after the end of the war, particularly the possibility of civil war in Ukraine.

He expressed these thoughts during the online forum “Veterans as a New Political Subject: Rules of Interaction for Post-War Ukraine,” where the role of veterans in post-war politics and society in Ukraine was discussed.

Risks for Veterans

Zaluzhny noted that demobilized military personnel may face economic difficulties, which could push them to earn money through illegal means.

“The war, unfortunately, is not over yet, and already someone has made us enemies. These are the realities of today. What we see. Second: what could happen tomorrow? We must understand that when faced with conditions like sharp income reductions, lack of work, lack of housing, and the inability to realize oneself in society and family, people with combat experience and weapons in hand become vulnerable to all kinds of provocations and temptations of easy money,” said the former Commander.

Increase in Crime and Instability

Among the potential threats, Zaluzhny highlighted the possible increase in crime and danger on the streets, citing historical examples.

“This is at least the experience of World War II and the war in Afghanistan with its ‘wild nineties’, so confirmation,” said the ambassador.

Zaluzhny also does not rule out the risk of political destabilization.

“And even all this could lead to risks of political destabilization in the country and threats to national security. Such, for example, as civil war,” he surprised with his statement.

He believes that the reintegration of veterans into peaceful life will be a challenging task for the state, society, and the veterans themselves.

Earlier, Valerii Zaluzhny also announced the number of veterans who will return home after the war.

The importance of these remarks is hard to overestimate, as growing social problems can lead to negative consequences for the security and stability of the country. The issue of veterans' reintegration requires a comprehensive approach and attention from the state and society to avoid possible threats in the future.
