Western officials lowering expectations regarding Zelensky's plan to end the war

According to Bloomberg, Western officials are trying to lower expectations regarding the plan to end the war that President Volodymyr Zelensky will present this week in New York. They do not believe it will lead to a breakthrough in the conflict with Russia.

One of the sources familiar with Zelensky's conversations with foreign leaders, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the so-called president's "victory plan" contains no real surprises and is not a significant turning point. Another official described it as a "wish list."

This grim assessment of the plan underscores the growing sense of pessimism among allied countries as the war drags into its third year. Allies also fear weakening support for Ukraine if former President Donald Trump returns to power after elections set to occur in just six weeks.

Allies proposed a new round of contacts with Putin

According to two officials, at least one ally suggested it is Time for a new round of contacts with President Vladimir Putin, either on Zelensky's part or from other countries.

Western countries' security in connection with Russia's continued armament

Western countries are also beginning to worry about their own security as Russia continues to produce weapons that may have effects beyond Ukraine. According to Bloomberg, Moscow intends to increase defense spending to a historic high of 13.2 trillion rubles ($142 billion) in 2025.

President Zelensky to present plan at UN meeting

Zelensky is presenting his plan on the sidelines of the annual session of the UN General Assembly. The second official noted that while allies want to support Ukraine for as long as it takes, the president needs to clarify what peace might look like.

On Friday, Zelensky told journalists that the plan aims to put his country in a stronger position for future diplomatic negotiations with Russia. Kyiv fears a ceasefire without clear guarantees will leave Putin the opportunity to strike again after rearming.

Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak on Monday told the Council on Foreign Relations in New York that the plan includes inviting to join NATO and urged partners to ignore Russia's threats regarding escalation.

Zelensky stated in the US about attention to Ukraine's struggle
