The Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, expressed his position regarding the mobilization of youth during a meeting with Ukrainian students in London on October 3.

The event was organized by the Ukrainian Students' Union, reports Bukvy.

"The 18-25 age category needs to be preserved as much as possible. I have always protested against the mobilization affecting people under 25 years old when I was in the position of the Commander-in-Chief because we need Ukraine in 20 years, and in 30 years. And this is it – they are now 18 years old. These are completely different people who will save this country," said Valeriy Zaluzhnyi.

Zaluzhnyi explained that it is harder for older military personnel to work due to their post-Soviet mentality. "If we take a 50-year-old 'uncle', we have to explain to him why it is precisely his company, his battalion that must storm the height or defend the stronghold. They have a completely different mentality, post-Soviet, believing that 'someone else can do it' for them," explained Zaluzhnyi.

"If the country reaches such a barrier when the existence of the state as such is threatened, only young people aged 18-25 can save it, because they are absolutely different people," emphasized Valeriy Zaluzhnyi.

In July, the spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Dmytro Lazutkin, reported that there is currently no need to lower the mobilization age due to the increased pace of mobilization in Ukraine.
