The Pototsky Castle in Kozova Will Become a Cultural Center

According to inkorr.com: The ruins of the 16th-century Pototsky Castle in Kozova, in Ternopil Oblast, are planned to be transformed into a modern multifunctional cultural center for the community. The new center will feature an exhibition hall, café, church, museum, and shelter. The implementation of the project is carried out by the public organization 'Institute of Urban Culture', which received a grant of 20,000 euros from the European Union's House of Europe program. The first events are already planned for January. This is reported by 'Glavkom' in a story by 'Suspilne'.

History of the Castle

This building has a defensive origin and was once used as a brewery, and later — for the production of non-alcoholic beverages. For quite a long time, it served as a warehouse, as the new owner, entrepreneur Igor Mamus, recounts.

'I am from Kozova myself. I lived nearby the castle, on the neighboring street. My windows and yard were right in front of it. I was amazed because the buildings looked ordinary, but here stood such a structure. I actually crawled through all the basements in this castle when I was a child,' says Igor Mamus.

The entrepreneur notes that he bought the castle to create an art space. He emphasizes that the building was essentially in ruins.

Planning for the Future

'They say it's easier to build a new house than to repair an old one. We removed 50 cm of garbage from here,' notes the owner.

As part of his project, Igor Mamus plans to repair the roof and floor, install heating, and make a toilet. All work is to be completed by January 1.

'The castle and Kozova had a different architectural appearance before World War II. I dream of restoring it at least partially,' adds the entrepreneur.

Previously, it was reported that in Cherkasy, a displaced person grows the world's most expensive spice.

The plan to transform the Pototsky Castle into a cultural center has sparked considerable interest among local residents and cultural figures. In addition to improving the community's infrastructure, the project can contribute to the preservation of historical heritage and the development of cultural life in the region. This could be an important step in reviving Kozova as a center of cultural activity in Ternopil Oblast.
