Olympic Champion Forced to Move in with Mother Amid Heating Crisis.
Kyiv's Heating System Failure
According to TSN.ua: Olympic champion and member of parliament, Jean Beleniuk, has revealed that the heating in his Kyiv apartment has failed, leaving the temperature at a frigid five degrees Celsius. His residence is in the city's Pechersk district, where a system breakdown has forced the heating to be shut off entirely. Repairs are not expected until after the current heating season concludes.
"It's five degrees in my home." - Jean Beleniuk
He added that authorities informed him, "They said there won't be any [heat] until the end of winter, until the end of this season." Due to the unlivable conditions, Beleniuk has relocated to his mother's private house outside the city. This situation highlights the severe infrastructure challenges facing Ukraine's capital, particularly during its harsh winters.
Uninhabitable Living Conditions
Beleniuk emphasized the extreme difficulty of the situation in his apartment, stating, "You can't survive in your apartment. Well, you can, but it's very hard." His case underscores the broader crisis affecting many Kyiv residents for whom reliable heating is a critical winter necessity.
Heating failures in residential buildings, especially in the capital, have become a pressing issue as temperatures plummet. Incidents like Beleniuk's point to systemic problems within the country's energy infrastructure that require urgent attention. Such failures impact not only resident comfort but also pose significant risks to health and well-being, making reliable heat supply a paramount concern during increasingly challenging winters.
